Milestones of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau
After six centuries of history, the Hospital's past is filled with milestones that form an important part of the history of medicine in our country. These include:

1937

The innovative technique of treating war casualties was introduced by Dr. Josep Trueta.

1964

S’inicia el primer programa de formació per a metges residents a Espanya,   conjuntament amb la Fundació Jiménez Díaz, l’Hospital General de Asturias i l’Hospital Puerta de Hierro.

1967

The first Emergency Service in Barcelona was inaugurated under the supervision of Dr. Vicenç Artigas.

1968

The Medical Faculty of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona began operating again. The first Coronary Unit in Spain was started under the supervision of Dr. Modest Garcia Moll.

1976

The first bone marrow transplant in Spain was performed by: Dr. Andreu Domingo, Dr. Isabel Badell and Dr. Josep Cubells.

1984

Dr. Josep Maria Caralps performed the first heart transplant in Spain.
